"Why Legolas? I suppose there's just something unique about him. He's a very easy character to write. He's a lot of things, and most certain of those things is that he's unassuming. He's one who's eternal and never-ending, yet so very fragile in his innocence. From beginning to end, one can see the way he grows as an individual. His is a character that is very easy to insert into imagination, to see in the mind's eye as someone around whom adventure is drawn. He's loyal to a fault, even at the risk of his own life, yet will accept no such risk from those he loves. His heart is in all he does. He cares so very deeply for his friends. He's wise beyond his years, and at the same time he's truely innocent. One can see a child in his eyes, even in the face of horrible things. I should suppose that few can turn a blind eye to Elven-kind, especially an Elf who would deny all he is to do what he has to for the sake of those he holds close. The way Legolas was written by Tolkien, and later portrayed by Orlando Bloom, brings the character to life in a way few creations of the imagination ever have, and he has found a way to reach into all our minds. Somehow, he has been able to embody a small part of everyone who cares to look for that part. He's the warrior we all want to be, the hero we all want to rescue us, the friend we all spend our lives seeking, the lover we all imagine, and the little brother we all want to protect. So, I should think, what's not to love?"- Shauna Rangel "What drew me to Legolas once I was reading the books (before seeing the movies) was his wit, which at times was rather sarcastic. What also attracted me to the character was the sheer skill with the bow and arrow, as well as his friendship with Gimli. Setting aside age-old prejudices is not an easy thing to do, yet he did this with such ease in the books and the movies. Lastly, once I had seen the movies, I had to praise the casting of Orlando Bloom in the films. I went back and re-read the description of Legolas in the FOTR, and it was Orlando to a 'T'. Where else have you ever seen a character so truthfully portrayed as he or she was described on paper?"- Melissa "Legolas... because he is a thoroughly amazing character. His skill, his features, his life and background... it's all that to think about. Orlando Bloom's performance as Legolas just made me appreciate the character even more (not just the fact he looks incredible...) And he is just such a fascinating character in so many ways. His heritage and background, though represented in some way or another, is terribly brief, and that's why I want to write about my favourite LOTR character in ways that should hopefully illustrate his life in a whole new light... not just as another one of the fellowship, but as the prince of Mirkwood."- Ailein "Legolas is the best character purely because he is the character who dosn't catch your eye at first..........but as soon as he starts shooting thoses arrows, wow he's good. Although when reading LOTR I don't think Legolas seems so approach-able... maybe because... well to be honest it's probally just because Orlando Bloom brings the character to life and Legolas dosn't show much emotion in the books, but I think thats what Orlando brought to the part.Well done Orlando!"- luv2read "Hm... I think that what first drew me to Legolas was the fact that he was Elven, embodying all those little things that add up to perfection, or as close as I've found. He lets me imagine that all our human shortcomings don't touch everything; that those little characteristics that endear us to each other might have been a source of amusement to another race. In short, it is not only Legolas, but basically the whole Elven ieda that intruiges me."- Rebecca |
