"Why not Legolas? The skill with the bow and arrow is awesome. And the sarcasm.. has anyone noticed how sarcastic he is? (In the books, of course.) Something about the way Tolkien writes about him... the mood just seems to get softer. That's why Legolas."-Tella

"Legolas is....eternal. He is an angel sent to Tolkien and given life through his words. He shows us how to live, to respect life. He shows us that even those of great age can still be a child. That is what draws me to him like a moth to a flame, or an elf to the sea."-Cheysuli

"Why Legolas? You could look at the fact that he is among the youngest of the elves and yet Elrond still trusted him enough to send him with the Fellowship of the Ring. You could look at his skills with the bow, his loyalty to his friends (ignoring Galadriel's warning about the gulls, for one), but I think what draws me to Legolas can be summed up in a single word: Gimli. That's right. Gimli. The son of Thranduil, a Sindarin elf who views himself as Silvan, Legolas manages to break with tradition and include Gimli in the ranks of the elf-friends. And ultimately, he risks everything to take the dwarf over the sea with him rather than leaving him in Middle-earth. And an elf who can do that deserves my respect."-Thundera Tiger

"I think that Legolas was played so thoroughly by Orlando Bloom. Such grace and poise he gave the character is certainly not seen everyday. Legolas seemed so real, like he was a real person that lived in the past. Also, even though he didn't have loads and loads of speaking parts his presence was just so noticable-in the movie i mean. Sorry, I haven't yet read all of the books , so i'm basing my opinion on the movie."-Anonymous

"Aside from a fascination with all things Elvish, what really draws me to Legolas is his ability to be a fierce warrior whilst at the same time retaining his beautiful inner spirit , his love for all living things (except Orcs, of course) and his love for music.

I totally agree with Thudera Tiger. How could anyone not respect and admire such a being!"-jenolas

"Legolas drew my attention as I read the books and got me off my seat when I saw the movie. Legolas is noble, gentle and brave. And I see him as very human elf. I loved the character for a long time, before the movie was made, and then, to see him outside my imagination, but very close to my ideal picture (except that in my mind he wasn't blond), was the kick I needed to write."-Maram68

"Alright, I hang my head in shame. The 'book' Legolas is not what first attracted me to this amazing character. It was indeed Orlando Bloom's excellent portrayal of him in the movie. (The puppy dog eyes he makes when he comes across Boromir dying truly did me in!) But that's actually a good thing in my case because it was the catalyst for propelling me into Tolkien's world so I could find out more about this wonderful elf. For me, Legolas is the ideal being. He's a fierce warrior--brave but silent; he's delightfully sarcastic--the banter with Gimli is so fun; he gives his friendship unconditionally--naming a dwarf elf-friend, following Aragorn through the Paths of the Dead and disregarding Galadriel's warning and his own well-being in doing so. And well, (sorry, I can't resist), he's beautiful--impossibly blue eyes, perfect eyebrows that relay every emotion, an amazingly sculpted body....I'll stop there; no doubt you all know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Legolas is...well, he's whatever we make him up to be. Tolkien gave us so little about his past and didn't dwell on him nearly enough in the trilogy to satisfy this fan. Legolas is beckoning for us to give him more definition, to draw his character more completely. And that's 'why Legolas!'"-PuterPatty

"Legolas? Yes I saw the movie before reading the books but they are both excellent! Orlando Bloom is wonderful, and the book Legolas is humorous and child-like(in a good way), lighting the mood of the story sometimes. In the book and the movie, anytime he's with Gimli and they're talking is a highlight."-Galenore
